A common idea about nude glamour photography is that it is something only young women can do. Like professional sport, it is a career that starts in their teens and may last through their 20s and into their 30s, but no longer. Then it’s time to quit and do something else.

However, there are a few ladies out there who have managed to show that they can still look great naked before the lens even when their youth is very much behind them.

A recent celebrity example of that is Nicole Kidman. Despite being 56, the Aussie is entering what she describes as her “daring” period of life, just about baring all in a shoot for Vogue Australia.

The actress said this was all part of a voyage of self-discovery, not reinvention, commenting: “It’s more like different facets that you discover that are in existence, but you are attuned to the discovery of them.”

Of course, it’s not like Nicole hasn’t shown off any flesh in her 30-year film career, though not habitually so. Naked scenes in Dead Calm, Malice, and Cold Mountain were interspersed with roles in films like Australia and The Others, in which she kept her clothes on.

It all goes to show that what may matter for some in a long career is versatility. You may not have to take your clothes off, although if you still look good doing so in the 2020s, it is not hard to work out the appeal of doing so in the 1990s.

Nicole Kidman is not the only more mature woman who still looks great in her 50s, but not all of them will still bare all. For instance, Selma Hayek still looks fine at 57, but the nudes of herself she posted on Instagram recently were very much a throwback to her younger days.

That shows this is a short career for some, but for some, it may last longer than many would expect.
