How To Feel Comfortable In Front Of The Camera

Although smartphones are entirely ubiquitous these days and we’re all very well used to pointing and clicking at all and sundry, it can still be very daunting to be on the other side of the camera… and, no matter how confident we may feel within ourselves, it can often be an incredibly different story once someone wants to take our photograph.

The good news is that there’s a lot you can do to make yourself feel more confident when you’ve got someone pointing a camera at you and who wants to start snapping away.

In fact, our first top tip is to always make sure you choose a photographer with whom you feel comfortable. Take your time finding the right one and make sure you’re happy with their particular style of photography before you even consider getting in touch.

Once you’ve got your photographer sorted, you can start thinking about choice of shoot location. Again, it’s important to make sure you pick somewhere you feel comfortable, so you can relax into the shoot and get the best photographs you possibly can.

Now that you know where you’re going to be shooting and who your photographer is, you can start to think about posing. Doing some prep work and practising some poses before the big day can help you feel ready and give you some ideas and inspiration to fall back on.

Otherwise, you may find that you feel a little paralysed when the cameras are on you and the resulting shots may seem awkward at the end.

And finally, don’t rush the process! Photo shoots can and should be a lot of fun - and if you’re having a good time, the pictures will almost certainly come out beautifully. Perhaps take the formality out of it all and consider something more informal at first to help you relax and feel more comfortable when it comes to doing more posed shots.
